On a countdown to 70 …

It’s one month to 70, which Previews on 1st August. This is something different – an exhibition about 70 year old women by 70 year old women.

Caistor Arts & Heritage Centre has never hosted an exhibition like 70 before – has anywhere?! – so we’re breaking new ground. Of the ten women involved, eight live in Lincolnshire. One of the other two has connections to Caistor and that leaves one outlier who lives in Cumbria (we must find out how she got in on the act!).

It’s anticipated that all ten will be at the Preview to cut Barbara’s 70 cake. You might get a slice if you come along! If you live locally, you might recognise or know Ailsa, Martha and Shelagh. There’s also Janice from Holton-le-Moor.

Ailsa has helped to enlist the help of some Caistor Grammar School Year 7 and Year 8 pupils. They were asked to respond to the question, ‘What does an old person look like?’ Their drawings have been integrated into the design of the exhibition.

And the message on this drawing is true! None of the group feel 70. Age is just a number, after all. But in their 70 years, the group have all lived through and experienced many changes and some of these are explored in the exhibition.

As individuals, they are still very active and creative, as this exhibition proves! 70 opens to the public on Saturday 2nd August and runs for three weeks until Saturday 23rd August.

70 is supported by Lincolnshire Community Foundation.
